Summary
Adam Savage’s ASES Suit Project and NASA Artifact Collection
Adam Savage is working on his Advanced Crew Escape System (ASES) suit, also known as the “pumpkin suit”. Recently, he acquired wrist rings for the shuttle gloves and received an email from a NASA artifact collector, Greg True Love. Greg sent him a pair of crew-worn boot flyer assemblies that match the suit, along with other items, including a letter and certified NASA transaction documents.
Unpacking the Mysterious Package
Upon unpacking the package, Adam found a variety of items, including launch entry boots, robotic exoskeleton prototypes, and NASA equipment such as a treadmill part and cap-on tape. These items were sent to help declutter the studio and share the collection with Adam. The package also included used NASA suit boots that match Adam’s exact shoe size.
Examining the NASA-Related Items
Among the items received, Adam examined a retired part marked with red, a signature recognition pen from the late 90s, and an Apollo-era mag latch assembly from 1972. He also found a high-performance graphite filled polymer rod made by DuPont, a tech etch ISS filter plate, a soft shuttle stowage blanket, a thermal protection unit, and a soft stowage pillow.
RoboNot 2 Prototype Garments and Other Items
Additionally, Adam received RoboNot 2 prototype garments, which were created using Robonaut 2 spin-off technology to develop robotic exoskeletons and gloves. Other items included a pair of boots for his astronaut suit, which Adam was thrilled to receive. He is excited to research and learn more about each part and promises to pay it forward by sharing items he doesn’t need with other space enthusiasts.
Acknowledging the Gift and Sharing with the Community
Adam thanks Greg for the thoughtful gift and letter. He is grateful for the opportunity to learn from and share the NASA artifacts with the community. For those interested in representing their love for space and technology, Savage logo patches are available in small and large sizes for labeling items or general representation, and can be purchased at adamsavage.com.
