The Story
On Friday afternoon, Tom needed to go to the supermarket. His wife, Clara, was busy, so she gave him a long list of things to buy for the weekend. “Don’t forget anything!” she said with a smile. Tom put the paper list in his jacket pocket and left the house.
When he arrived at the big supermarket, he reached into his pocket for the list, but it was not there. He started to feel worried. He checked his other pockets and then his wallet, but he couldn’t find it. The little piece of paper was lost.
“Oh no,” he thought. Tom stood near the fruit and tried to remember what was on the list. He was sure they needed milk for their morning coffee and bread for sandwiches. He saw some nice red apples and thought, “Clara likes apples.” He put five of them into his shopping basket.
Next, he thought about dinner for that night. He remembered Clara wanted to make a special meal. He decided to buy some chicken and a bag of rice. He also got some nice yellow cheese because his son loves it for a snack. He started to feel more confident that he could remember most of the things.
When Tom got home, Clara helped him put the food away. “You did a good job,” she said, “but you forgot the sugar and the coffee.” Then she pulled out a big bar of chocolate from a bag. “But you remembered this!” she laughed. It wasn’t a perfect shopping trip, but everyone was happy.
