The Story
Maya loved her new phone. It was a beautiful blue color and it was a gift from her parents for her fourteenth birthday. She used it all the time to talk with her friends, take pictures, and play her favorite games.
One Tuesday afternoon, Maya was walking home from school. She was listening to music on her phone and was not looking where she was going. Suddenly, she tripped over a small stone on the sidewalk. The phone flew out of her hand and fell.
The phone hit the hard ground with a terrible cracking noise. Maya picked it up quickly. Her heart sank when she saw it. The screen was completely broken. It had lines all over it like a spider’s web. She felt very sad and started to cry a little.
When she got home, she showed the broken phone to her mother. Her mother was not angry, but she looked a little disappointed. “You need to be more careful with your things, Maya,” she said softly. They decided to go to a phone shop to see if a person could fix it.
The man at the shop looked at the phone. He said he could put a new screen on it, but it was very expensive. Maya knew she had to pay for it herself. She went home and took all the money from her piggy bank to pay for the repair. It was an important lesson for her to learn.
