Subject & Object Pronouns
Pronouns are words that replace nouns to avoid repetition. It’s important to use the correct pronoun depending on its role in the sentence: is it doing the action (the subject) or receiving the action (the object)?
Scope & Content:
- Subject Pronouns: `I, you, he, she, it, we, they`
- Object Pronouns: `me, you, him, her, it, us, them`
⚠️ Attention: Common Challenges
The Subject Performs the Action: The subject pronoun is the “doer” of the action. It usually comes before the verb.
- “She likes coffee.” (She is doing the action of liking.)
- “They are from Canada.” (They are the subject of the verb ‘are’.)
The Object Receives the Action: The object pronoun receives the action. It usually comes after the verb or a preposition (like `for`, `to`, `with`).
- “He called me.” (I am receiving the call. Incorrect:
He called I.) - “I will speak to him.” (He is receiving the action of speaking. Incorrect:
I will speak to he.)
