The Story
One rainy afternoon, Lily and Tom were visiting their grandmother’s house. It was raining too hard to play outside, and they were feeling a little bored. Their grandmother saw their sad faces and said, “I have an idea. Why don’t you explore the attic?”
Lily and Tom had never been in the attic before. They climbed the old wooden stairs. The room was dark and smelled like old books. It was full of forgotten things. In a corner, under a white sheet, they found a small, dark wooden box. It was closed with a little gold key.
They were very curious about what was inside. They carefully carried the box downstairs to their grandmother. When she saw the box, a big smile appeared on her face. “Oh, I haven’t seen this in years,” she said. She took the key and opened the lock.
Inside the box, there were many old photos and letters tied with a blue ribbon. There was also a beautiful silver necklace with a small heart. Their grandmother picked up one photo. It showed a young girl with a happy face. “This was me when I was your age,” she said.
Lily and Tom sat on the floor and listened for more than an hour. Their grandmother told them wonderful stories about her life in the past. They learned about their family and saw pictures of people they never met. The rainy afternoon turned into a very special day.
